- Iraq: Rep. Kucinich is the only candidate for President who has voted against authorizing the war in Iraq and against funding its continuation. He has proposed a bold, new policy to re-establish America's place in the world. Diplomacy and a return to statesmanship as the path to strong international leadership.
- Health Care: Health care in the US is too expensive and leaves 46 million Americans without insurance and millions more underinsured. Dennis Kucinich is the only candidate for President with a plan for a Universal, Single-Payer, Not-for-Profit health care system. Representative Dennis Kucinich has co-authored HR 676, legislation which would establish Medicare for All - a universal, single-payer, not-for-profit health care system that leaves no American behind.
- Environment: Kucinich will lead the way in protecting our oceans, rivers and rural environments. He will also lead in fighting for clean, affordable and accessible drinking water. He has worked hand-in-hand with the environmental movement on many battles, from thwarting a nuclear waste dump to boosting organics to demanding labels on genetically-engineered products. A clean environment, a sustainable economy, and an intact ozone layer are not luxuries, but necessities for our planet's future.
U.S.-India Relations
- Opposed the U.S. and India Nuclear Cooperation Promotion Act of 2006, arguing that it would "threaten global security and unilaterally modify the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty."
- Cosponsored a May 2007 House resolution that the United States "should address the ongoing problem of untouchability in India."
Notable Achievements
- Rep. Kucinich voted against the USA Patriot Act, and later criticized the 2003 invasion of Iraq ordered by President Bush. He has been a consistent critic of the Bush administration's foreign policy.
- Was the author of the landmark Violence Against Women Act of 1994, which contains a broad array of ground breaking measures to combat domestic violence and provides billions of dollars in federal funds to address gender-based crimes.
- In 1977, Kucinich was elected Mayor of Cleveland and served in that position until 1979. At 31, he was the youngest mayor of a major city in the United States. In 1998 the Cleveland City Council honored him for having the "courage and foresight" to stand up to the banks and saving the city an estimated $195 million between 1985 and 1995.
- A long-time opponent of space-based weapons, he has sponsored legislation in the House that bans the deployment and use of space-based weapons.
